Overview
Born in Majorca in 1992, Marcella Barceló lives and works in Paris.

Her work has been presented in numerous exhibitions both in France and internationally. She participated in the Biennale de Dessin Contemporain de Paris in 2014 and was Awarded the Prix du Dessin Contemporain of the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2015. Her work can be found in the collections of the Fondation Louis Vuitton (France) Xiao Museum (China), Museum of Contemporary Art of Ibiza (Spain), Cabinet de Dessin des Beaux- Arts de Paris (France), Fondation Guerlain (France), Fonds de Dotation Emerige (France) among others.

Her frequent travels to Japan introduced her to Mono No aware, an aesthetic concept derived from Japanese Buddhist philosophy that deals with the elusive nature of the sensible world, the description and resigned contemplation of what is lost. A disturbing metaphorical strangeness emerges from Marcella Barceló’s canvases, crossed by the recurring figures of ghostly adolescents, hesitating between wonder and anguish.

"I try to represent anxious memories, to represent that moment when we realize the impermanence of everything. I represent landscapes where there seems to be a potential threat, a slight trembling, a few seconds before being chased out of paradise," says the artist.
