Jo Fish

Née dans les années 90 dans le Michigan, elle vit et travaille à New York. Dotée d'une personnalité monomaniaque, elle a été une athlète très impliquée pendant toute son enfance. Elle découvre alors la peinture et se lance à corps perdu dans cette forme d'art. 

Le passé sportif de Jo s'est traduit par un intérêt pour l'exploration figurative ; la contorsion du corps que l'on voit dans son travail découle de ce passé. Elle décompose la figure en forme, le fond en blocs de couleur et l'imagerie en langage codé. Il existe un jeu entre le contrôle et l'absence de contrôle dans son travail, à la fois sur le plan thématique et technique. Les formes soigneusement rendues et les zones masquées contrastant avec les traits gestuels créent cette juxtaposition.

 

Jo Fish a exposé ses œuvres à l'étranger, notamment dans l'Ohio, à Buenos Aires, en Argentine, et à New York, pour n'en citer que quelques-unes. En outre, Jo a été artiste en résidence dans le cadre du R.A.R.O. International Artist Residency Program, du New York Arts Practicum Program et du New York Trestle Artist Residency Program.

 

 

 

Born in the 90’s in Michigan, lives and works in New York. Having a monomaniac personality, she was an intensely involved athlete for the entirety of her childhood. She then discovered painting and fiercely threw herself into this art form. Jo’s past in sports translated into an interest in figurative exploration; the contortion of the body seen in her work stems from this background. She dismantles the figure into form, background into color blocks and imagery into a coded language. There exists a play between control and the lack thereof in her work, both thematically and technically. The carefully rendered forms and masked areas contrasted with gestural stroke creates this juxtaposition.
 
Jo Fish has shown her work internationally in places such as Ohio, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and New York City to name a few. Additionally, Jo has been an artist in residence with the R.A.R.O. International Artist Residency Program, the New York Arts Practicum Program and the New York Trestle Artist Residency Program.
