Overview

Julien Saudubray, who graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2012, has since exhibited in Belgium, France, Italy and England. This young artist excels in experimentation. A synthesis of his painting leads today, after some peregrinations, to a practice that he describes himself as 'mechanistic'. Between abstraction and figuration, he continues to work on images to which he never stops adding layers and colors, but also removing them, the subjective being then reduced to the strict minimum. He says himself: "With each brushstroke, I hesitate between excitement and boredom, while observing myself painting, like an absurd machine programmed according to the Beckettian formula 'Miss again. Miss better'". In collaboration with the galleries Waldburger Wouters and Ketabi Bourdet, Snoeck Editions thought the time was right for a first overview of his work, in an ambitious book. An artist's book, but not only. With texts by Louma Salamé, director of the Boghossian Foundation, and Claire Leblanc, director of the Ixelles Museum.
